The search for a missing Clarendon woman ended tragically on Sunday, after her remains were discovered in a pit in Milk River in the parish.

Police have confirmed the identity of the deceased as Derricka Rogers, a resident of Gravel Hill.

According to reports, Rogers left home on Tuesday, May 27, to visit an acquaintance and was last seen at the Milk River bus park in the parish capital, May Pen.

Her disappearance sparked concern among her relatives, friends and members of the community, culminating in Sunday’s tragic discovery.

Among those present at the recovery site was Rogers' employer, Everel Morris, who joined scores of onlookers as authorities exhumed the remains. Visibly shaken, Morris described the ordeal as distressing.

"Seeing the recovery process... it is very devastating... very traumatising. I can only imagine what the family is going through. I have absolutely no words for [her father,]" he told journalists at the scene.

Morris also issued an appeal for an end to violence against women, a sentiment echoed by many as the community grapples with the loss.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Rogers’ death are ongoing.

Up to May 24, a total of 15 homicides had been recorded in Clarendon.
