COJO hosts scholarship awards luncheon, community outreach as part of annual mission to Jamaica
Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO) Inc is set to host its annual scholarships award luncheon on Wednesday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
The luncheon forms part of the United States-based non-profit organisation’s annual mission trip to Jamaica, which got under way yesterday and concludes on Saturday.
During the luncheon, 18 wards of the state will be awarded scholarships to pursue tertiary education.
Gary Williams, COJO’s founder and executive director, expressed his excitement about returning to Jamaica for the occasion.
“It’s always a privilege to invest in the lives of Jamaica’s youth,” said Williams. “This year’s mission is especially important as we expand our efforts to support more students and impact the development of under-served youth.”
A key highlight of the trip will be COJO’s ongoing support of the Granville Place of Safety in Trelawny. On Friday, COJO, in partnership with Bahia Principe Jamaica, will host a special luncheon for the residents of the facility. That morning, Granville Place of Safety will also receive a donation of essential appliances, courtesy of COJO, as part of its commitment to improving the living conditions of children in state care.
The 2025 mission trip has been made possible through the support of Bahia Principe Jamaica, Dr Sandra L. Lindsay, JetBlue, and CARIMED, whose partnerships, COJO said, continue to uplift vulnerable youths and strengthen communities across the island.
“COJO remains steadfast in its mission to enrich the lives of under-served children, offering hope and opportunity through education and healthcare,” the organisation said.
Founded in 1994, COJO Inc is dedicated to helping underprivileged children in Jamaica and the US, particularly those in state care. COJO provides scholarships, mentorship, and critical resources to support youth development and success.
