The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the police fatal shooting of a man in Mount Industry, St Andrew, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as 37-year-old labourer Joshimar Grey, otherwise called 'Pops', of Gordon Town, St Andrew.

About 4:30 a.m. a police party conducted an operation in Mount Industry during which Grey allegedly challenged the police with a handgun.

He was shot and injured.

The police say a Walter PPK pistol affixed with a magazine containing five rounds of nine millimetre cartridges was retrieved from him.

He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
