First-time candidate 61 year-old Peter Evans is seeking to derail the dominance of the Jamaica Labour Party, which has not lost the Hope Bay division for the better part of 30 years.

Evans’ political affiliation with the PNP is somewhat strange, as his entire family supports the JLP. Despite this, Evans believes that he can break the JLP’s winning streak. According to him, the basic infrastructure in the Hope Bay division importantly – road and water – are badly in need of rehabilitation.

And while Evans is content with facing the backlash from family members, he is clear that his decision to enter representational politics is born out of a passion to serve and to assist with community building, while providing what he termed as sustainable employment to the youth.

“I have development plans for the community, and for youths around. I have been out there and I am well loved by the people, “ he says.

“I will give a good performance on February 26 and I am looking forward to winning the Hope Bay division at a fair margin. I really wanted to become councillor, so as to improve on the water supply system, get investors to come in to put up a call centre to provide at least 300 persons with jobs, and to erect a chicken plant to assist farmers with producing ‘A’ grade chicken,” he concluded.

Evans will face off with Orton Manahan of the PNP in the February 26 local government elections.
