Jamaica's first business channel, Business Access Television (BATV), launched its current affairs discussion programme, 'On Point', at Twenty Three, New Kingston, on Thursday, July 22.

Managing Director Garth Walker, in his remarks, said the launch of the programme was very exciting and humbling.

"Proud is an understatement, to see another thought brought to life as we continue to chart the road of staying true to our mantra 'Serious About Business' and celebrating our first anniversary," Walker said.

He said that many have asked, why a current affairs programme at this time, but "we believe the channel needs something weekly that dissect the various business issues affecting the economy from all sectors. To reinforce and deliver it, the dynamic duo of Dennis Chung and journalist Kalilah Reynolds are best suited to deliver this," Walker explained.

"Business Access is recognising how business is consumed in Jamaica, one of our programmes, 'Corporate Events', has covered approximately 150 business events, including expos, conferences, workshops, product launches, seminars and summits. Our mandate is to showcase businesses from all sectors and in all sizes. Sixty-five per cent of these events would not have got the exposure or the coverage through video before the launch of BATV," Walker added.

The first episode of 'On Point' was viewed at the launch and featured an exclusive interview with Finance Minister Audley Shaw; the topic was the International Monetary Fund (IMF) support programme and the country's current economic state.

In the coming weeks, 'On Point' will feature business persons, including successful entrepreneurs and role models, analysts, industry thinkers and journalists, offering advice and proposing solutions to the daily challenges within the business community.

'On Point' will be aired every Thursday at 8 p.m. on BATV FLOW Channels 145/185 and DigiPlay Channel 25. The first season lasts 13 weeks and sponsors are National Bakery; Yellow Pages; GraceKennedy Money Services, through Bill Express, FX Trader, Western Union; and ATL.
