Model and Miss Universe Jamaica 2017 Davina Bennett says she is “grateful to God” after being struck by a vehicle while heading home from a New York Fashion Week (NYFW) show.

Bennett revealed in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday that she was hit just minutes from where she lives while returning from a show on Saturday.

"I stopped at a pedestrian crossing. I pressed the walk signal button... . When the signal came, I stepped off the curb, and that’s when I was hit! The next thing I knew, I was waking up in an ambulance, with paramedics telling me what had happened," she wrote.

Bennett had earlier in the day walked for KBB by Kahlana, Kahlana Barfield Brown's collaboration with Target.

"I was scared, confused, crying, and in shock; my mind was a complete blank (and still is)," she shared of the incident.

Despite being left bruised and in severe pain, doctors told the 29-year-old model that she remarkably had no broken bones or fractures.

The doctor, recalled Bennett, said: “Considering what I’ve heard, it’s extraordinary that you don’t have any broken bones or fractures".

The accident occurred during a major milestone for Bennett, who had been documenting her dream of walking at NYFW. She made her runway debut in Haitian designer Waina Chancy’s Atelier Ndigo collection at Harlem Fashion Row’s 18th Annual Runway Show and Style Awards on Tuesday, held at Cipriani Wall Street.

Though devastated that the accident forced her to miss further shows, Bennett says she remains determined. "This might be the end of my first fashion week. I’m currently in severe pain, but I’m grateful to be alive. They say as long as you have life, there’s hope. This was unfortunate, but it won’t be the end of my journey," she said.
