From robotics to the runway
Male Fashion Face Prestley Hart ready for the world
Prestley Hart, SAINT International’s newly minted Male Fashion Face of the Caribbean winner, had a long-standing affinity for fashion, particularly styling himself in trendy ensembles whenever he steps through the door of his St Andrew home.
The 18-year-old Hillel Academy student, however, never considered becoming a model. That is, until his entrepreneur mother, Shauna-Gaye Hart, disc jockey Orrett ‘DJ Bambino’ Hart and aunt, Locale boutique owner Kerry-Ann Clarke, intervened.
“We were chatting in February this year and looking back at pictures of Prestley, and figured with his height and bone structure, he could model,” Shauna-Gaye informed Living.
“In that moment, his aunt Kerry-Ann said, ‘Let’s send Deiwght some pictures’. We did, and Deiwght proposed a meeting right away and told us, ‘Let’s see where this can go.’ From that point on, Prestley started doing SAINT’s training workshops, and it snowballed from there.”
The men’s competition champ honoured the support system that nurtured his journey to topping 33 male competitors.
“I feel great about the win and grateful to everyone who got me here. The biggest lesson I learnt about myself is how important confidence is in performing in the competition, and how to work well with other people,” extolled the high-schooler, with a deep passion for robotics and coding. Of these twinned interests, he said: “I like having ideas in my head and being able to turn them into reality using logic and my imagination in a creative way. That’s why they excite me.”
As to his dream clients to book for fashion assignments, the curly-fro-haired Prestley, who stands at six-feet-two-inches, revealed, “I really like PacSun as a brand and maybe Prada. People say they could see me in Prada, I don’t know why, but I wouldn’t mind working with them.”
Firmly in her son’s corner, Mama Hart is big on not squandering opportunity.
She is receptive to the possibility of a gap year from school for Prestley, should his career take off within the next few months.
“This is a new realm for us [as a family]. I would like to see him do his best at whatever doors open for him. After that then we can explore. I would love for him to become a supermodel and do campaigns, but one thing at a time. We will take it as it comes.”
Visiting scouts from top-tier North American and European modelling agencies, Ford Models, Soul Artist Management, Wilhelmina Models, Supreme Models and The Society Model Management comprised the judging panel to determine the female and male competition winners.
SAINT’s other shining stars of the night were Guyana’s Shauntaé Washington, the Female Fashion Face of the Caribbean winner and Avant Garde Designer of the Year Janseen Graham.
Fifty-seven-year-old Graham’s shape-shifting, two-toned ensemble ‘Saintly Evolve’, worn by Jada Wright, won rapturous applause from the audience in the AC Kingston Hotel’s Rocksteady ballroom and was a repeat competition winner.
He previously won in 2023 for his then creation, ‘Jamrock Fusion’.
