Love on the docket
Lawyers Jodi-Kay Anderson and Demoy Kerr form ironclad union
When Demoy Kerr attended his friend’s birthday dinner one evening, he never dreamt that he would be meeting his future wife. But after laying eyes on Jodi-Kay Anderson for the first time, so captivated was he by her beauty that a few years later, another celebration ensued between the two, one of holy matrimony.
“When I first met her, I thought she was absolutely stunning and way out of my league,” Demoy told Island Wedding.
According to Jodi-Kay, her first impression of Demoy was that he was both articulate and ambitious. It’s a view that she has maintained as she got to know him better.
The two exchanged Instagram handles but didn’t speak until two years later when they saw each other once more at another event.
“Although I could not place having met her before, my initial thoughts of her returned to the forefront of my mind. It wasn’t until later that day that she reminded me that we had met before,” he revealed.
After reuniting, the pair decided to make up for lost time and go on a date to Janga’s Soundbar and Grill on Belmont Road in St Andrew. “I could not stop laughing,” Jodi-Kay revealed, adding, “He made me feel very comfortable, and we communicated really well.”
Demoy confirmed that the night was indeed filled with laughter, good banter and good vibes. “We [learnt] that we had a lot in common, and I thought our personalities complemented each other.”
Just three months following that first date, Demoy and Jodi-Kay embarked on a beautiful journey together.
Since then, Jodi-Kay has admired how outgoing, articulate, hilarious, attractive and ambitious Demoy is. “Driven, he has great aspirations that I am certain he will achieve.”
“He is a people person and loves to interact with others. He loves reading and sharing information. And he updates me on all that is happening in the world. He also does a lot of public speaking engagements, and I am always captivated. As a true storyteller, he makes me laugh. He treats me well, and he is so considerate,” she shared.
Introverted by nature, her beloved pushes her daily to step outside of her comfort zone to achieve greatness. “He is my icebreaker at gatherings. He has nurtured our relationship by creating a safe space for me to be myself.”
For Demoy, he just can’t get enough of how beautiful, brilliant, jovial, hard-working and loving his twin flame is. “She has a great sense of humour and she makes me laugh. Her beauty shines from within and manifests outwards. She is a loving person with a warm and inviting personality, and that warmth is manifested in her smile and the twinkle of her eyes.”
Thought-provoking and analytical, Demoy said that she is not afraid to challenge an opinion and present a fresh and sound perspective. She is astute and disciplined in managing her professional obligations, while balancing her personal life. And she is very quiet.
“She has inspired me to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be and she supports my ambitions. I’ve gained a greater appreciation for responsibility, strengthening my spiritual growth and my values regarding family, to include the importance of quality time with the ones that matter most,” he highlighted.
After nine months of dating, this labour of love gave birth to a new chapter: an engagement.
The couple planned a birthday trip for Demoy to the Dominican Republic. Working with an event planner in that country, the plan was to give Jodi-Ann the impression that they were going to dinner with friends for his celebration.
“When we got to the venue, our friends brought out the blindfolds for both of us to enter the marina. What she didn’t know was that she was the only one blindfolded. We led her inside and that was when she heard the sound of the violinist playing Can’t Help Falling in Love by Kiana Grannis. She opened her eyes to see me down on one knee with the ring in my hand and a smile on my face, staring into her beautiful eyes, asking for her hand in marriage,” he explained.
Jodi-Kay, who still doesn’t know how he was able to pull off that surprise, found the destination proposal to be absolutely beautiful. Naturally, she said yes to marrying her soulmate.
Enlisting a wedding planner, and with the help of her mother-in-law, the fianceé confessed that she took herself out of the planning process completely for peace.
On October 20, 2024, two lawyers made their union legal, joining hands and hearts in holy matrimony at the groom’s church, First Church of the Open Bible in Montego Bay, St James. The newly-weds continued the nuptial celebration with a festive reception held at The Palm Terrace, also located in the Second City.
“The wedding was stunning,” the gorgeous bride reflected, noting, “The room was filled with loved ones and the presence of the Lord. It was more than I had hoped for. The best moment was my husband placing the ring on my finger.”
For the debonair groom, the wedding was nothing short of spectacular. “The day was even more special because we were surrounded by family and close friends. The best moment for me was hearing her say ‘I do’.”
For their first dance as husband and wife, the duo shared a mesmerising moment to First Time by Teeks. “I felt at home in that moment and looked forward to forever with my husband,” Jodi-Kay added.
