The day AI made me cry
THE EDITOR, Madam:
From the first day I used OpenAI’s ChatGPT I knew that we had entered a new world of possibilities.
Sometime between 2024 and 2025, I was introduced to suno.ai while attending a virtual AI summit in India. As a songwriter and singer, I was elated to be able to set up a free account and create songs. I was able to demonstrate to participants in my AI workshops and presentations how they could create songs and create songs honouring them for participating in the events. I enjoyed working with Suno and introducing this music platform to others.
I became really excited when my coach, who is in The Netherlands, asked me some questions and used Suno to create a motivational song for me. It is one thing to have a song dedicated to me, but to have a song with my name in it was an indescribable feeling, but that didn’t make me cry.
There is a song that I learnt at home as a child. I have never heard it outside of our home or seen it in any song book. My mother had told me it was written by my father who was a pastor, educator, and village icon. I purposed in my heart that one day I would record the song in honour of my father who died in 1961.
Fast-forward to January 2026. I uploaded the words of the song to suno.ai, and the song created by Granville Washington George Anderson came to life. It was as if my father was singing from his grave. I couldn’t hold back the tears, and even now, I am teary-eyed. AI assisted me to bring my father’s legacy to the world after so many years. Artificial Intelligence (AI) became the bridge connecting generations.
I end this with an analogy. Knives can be used to make it easier for me to function efficiently in my kitchen, but knives can cut me and can also be used as murder weapons. However, I would rather use knives in my kitchen than deprive myself of the benefits of using knives in my kitchen for fear of using them to hurt myself or them being used by others to hurt me. I will continue to use AI tools.
AI made me cry for joy. Thanks to Suno.
