Locals dreading party at Puerto Seco Beach

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Entertainment centres are buzzing with events this weekend and it appears that Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay is not to be left out.

Despite the noise and traffic confusion at a previous dance which drew the ire of the affected public, the police have once again granted a permit for a massive party on the beach adjacent to the main road which passes through the middle of the village.

The noise, the traffic, the roadblocks, delays, the missed appointments at airport and family connections, the DJ’s rude language which assaulted residents in their homes, all this it was thought would justify ruling out Puerto Seco for this kind of melee.

Yet the police have given them another chance. The advertisements say the party closes at 6 p.m. This has never been the case. The Easter nightmare went until 10 p.m. when the police shut it down in response to repeated requests.

One cannot grudge Puerto Seco the chance to make some money and give their patrons a good time. Puerto Seco parties are there for anyone who can afford it to enjoy, but surely not at the expense of other people who want to go about their business and enjoy their holiday without the dreadful and illegal noise levels, and those massive traffic jams that make a mockery out of what is a national holiday.
