Avoid clash of Jazz Fest, Calabash

Published:Sunday | June 3, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

"Don't know that you want to have the annual CALABASH FESTIVAL on the south coast, the annual JAZZ FESTIVAL on the north coast [on the] same day."

There were a number of responses to the above Facebook post referring to two most important and enriching cultural events occurring on the same day, Sunday, June 3.

Other reactions include, "Need an all-events committee to do scheduling." "Major calendar should have the annual events, times and schedules even if they don't occur."

Another suggestion is that the entertainment and culture ministry should be upfront in putting together an annual entertainment calendar of particular events that attract overseas visitors. And one poster said,

"They need to use Internet-savvy youth to coordinate these things. We can't continue using old methods in these times of multiple events and new dimensions of entertainment."

Enough said! These two events, the best of two worlds, must be set apart by dates and not billed to compete with each other.
