GG to proceed with IC appointments
Following pressure from civil society for Governor General Sir Patrick Allen to break his silence on the delay in making two critical appointments to the Integrity Commission (IC), King’s House has signalled that the appointments will be made in short order.
When The Gleaner asked King’s House why the appointments to the positions of director of corruption prosecution (DCP) and executive director had not been confirmed, the Office of the Governor General declined to explain, stating that communication on such matters is confidential.
However, in a statement last evening, it said that Sir Patrick has taken note of recent public commentary concerning appointments under the Integrity Commission Act, 2017.
The governor general said the Integrity Commission’s recommendations for the positions of DCP and executive director, received in June and July 2025, departed from the long-established precedent guiding such appointments.
The Office of the Governor General said after the IC refuted efforts to resolve the matter, the Head of State sought a formal opinion from the Attorney General’s Chambers to ensure that his actions were consistent with law and constitutional propriety.
“That opinion,” according to King’s House, was shared with the IC, which has since this week complied with the administrative precedent.
King’s House said Sir Patrick will proceed to invite the recommended individuals to take and subscribe to the prescribed Oaths of Office
