The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is appealing to members of the security forces who are registered to vote to update their status on the police and military voters’ list ahead of the upcoming general election, which is due by September.

The national voters’ list is segmented to allow police and military electors to vote at their assigned location on the day designated for Special Services voting. Consequently, current police and military electors must ensure that their name is assigned to the correct location to receive their ballots on voting day.

Former officers are being asked to verify that their name is removed from the police and military voters’ list, to eliminate any confusion on Special Services voting day or Election Day.

Officers are being asked to update their information through:

• The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Establishment (Human Resource Division) or the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Chaplaincy Department; or

• Any EOJ constituency office or the EOJ head office at 43 Duke Street, Kingston.

“The EOJ has submitted to the JCF and the JDF headquarters, a master listing showing the current assigned locations for all officers. Our website has also been updated to reflect this information. We are asking all officers to ensure that your location assignment is up-to-date, so that a ballot can be provided for you at the correct location,” said Glasspole Brown, director of elections.

Retired military and police electors, and persons who have worked with these entities, including district constables, are being encouraged to check the ECJ website, EOJ constituency offices or their former JCF/JDF locations to verify that their name has been removed from the police/military voters’ list.

“If you are no longer a member of the JCF or the JDF, then your name should be removed from the police or military voters’ list and placed on the civilian list so that you can vote on the general election day. Once the EOJ is notified of the change in your status, we will update our system to reflect your new voting location,” Brown said.

Police and military electors are urged to verify their information as soon as possible.
