Senior police investigators are now awaiting the result of a post-mortem as they probe a mystery surrounding a body found in a container at a facility operated by a major St Catherine-based exporter last Thursday.

Sunday Gleaner sources say the empty container was sent from the wharf last Wednesday to the facility where it was to be loaded with products for export.

When the container was opened last Thursday, workers found the body of a man clad in a black pants, black shoes and black underwear with no shirt. The man is of dark complexion and believed to be in his early 50s.

"There were no visible signs of injuries so we are not sure how he died. We are awaiting the post-mortem and we will be shortly releasing the information that we have in the hope that we can get help from members of the public to identify him," said a senior police source.

"We cannot yet rule out foul play but it could also be death by misadventure. Those questions will be answered when the result of the post-mortem is presented to the investigators," added the source.

The name of the importer is being withheld by The Sunday Gleaner pending an official release from the police.
