Call it Portia, call it
It appears most Jamaicans believe Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller should announce the date for the next general election during today's mass meeting.
Late last week our news team took to the streets and asked: Do you think the prime minister should announce the election date today? Here are some of the responses.
Lancelot Brown
Portland
I would like the Prime Minister to announce the date for the parliamentary election today, so as to remove the guessing and suspense. This will put to rest the ongoing suspense and allow for what I hope will be a peaceful campaign.

Procrastination is the thief of time so she should just do it
Lisa-Gay Taylor

Yes I think so. She left us in suspense from last year and I respect her choice for a 'safe Christmas'. Christmas is long over and it's now the end of the first month so she should announce it today in Half-Way Tree.
Annalee Taylor

Well its up to her she is the PM ... I think she should just get it over and done with ... whoever wins I hope things will be better"
Hansetta Downer
Portland
I want the election date to be announced today so that we can look forward to cast our ballots. I am eagerly awaiting the announcement.
Headley James
Portland
Yes I want the Prime Minister to announce the election date today to put the people's heart at ease. The delay and suspense is becoming too unbearable.
Chris Williams

"Yes she should call the election she has been tempting the people since last year so she should announce the date Sunday and get it over with."
Earnest Allen
St Ann
No, I don't think it's a good time.
Yvonne Thomas
St Ann
Yes, she might as well. Why keep us in suspense
Hopeton Wright

"Yes I think she would announce the date for the election on today. Get it over with and allow the country to move on."
Keleesha Ricketts

"The Prime Minister should call the election today, She got everyone thinking it would have been last year so I think she should not delay it any longer

It's really neither here nor there for me. I almost forgot we had leaders.
Kevar Smith
The PNP has been stepping up campaigning over the past couple of months and their presence is quite visible on the grounds and as such it would be quite fitting for the party to take advantage while they're on top and call the election.
The venue is also quite fitting as Half-Way Tree square has historically been the favourite venue for the announcement of election dates.
The time is right, the forum is perfect and the conditions are ideal for the PM to call the election.
Burchell Gordon
Manchester
Definitely, Jamaicans have experienced a lot since the last general elections and I think they are eager to have a say in what and who exists above them. Whether green or orange, those who are underperforming need a reality check. People have been waiting and salivating at the idea of change and growth, of any sort, for quite some time. I think it's full time she gets, 'the touch'.
Ingrid Parchment
Clarendon
No. I don't think that the announcement that affects the country should be made at rally meetings. However, based on where we are now, I think we need to hear the date and move on.
Dr Winston Dawes
Clarendon
Yes. I think the date has been hanging over our heads for the last three months. We need to get it over with. There are some serious decisions to be made and a mandate is needed. No point in delaying it.
Darrick Grant
Clarendon
Yes. The country is in a limbo. The election should be called to avoid the uncertainty, so that people can better plan for the future.
