Rastafarians were out in huge numbers to witness the re-enactment of the trial of Governor Eyre yesterday. They drummed and chanted in the vigil that preceded the historic trial. Eyre was found guilty of conspiracy to murder four persons, including Paul Bogle and George William Gordon. The Senate on Friday observed a moment of silence in memory of Gordon’s death. The House of Representatives will tomorrow consider a motion to acknowledge the contributions of the martyrs who joined Paul Bogle in the fight for social justice in Jamaica, and for October 11 each year to be declared as Paul Bogle, George William Gordon, and the Martyrs of St Thomas Day.
