Study shows people put on weight after getting in relationships
New research reveals that almost half of Brits gain weight after starting a relationship, with one in five piling on between 11lb and 22lb, and more than one in 10 adding over 22lb to their frame.
The findings, from a survey by Chemist4U, suggest that romance often leads to lifestyle changes that slowly tip the scales - with cosy nights in, comfort food and fewer gym visits all playing a part.
A spokesperson for Chemist4U said: “Both positive and negative emotions can affect your weight, but the negative ones usually hit harder.
"Happy times can mean shared meals and cosy nights in, which may lead to slow, routine-based weight gain.
"But when we’re stressed, we crave quick comforts – that means reaching for things like sugary or fatty foods."
