WISDOM OF THE WEEK

The ‘doer’ is not the ‘deed’

We often hold strong impressions of people based on how they behave in specific moments. A harsh word, a mistake, a gentle expression, or a smile on the face becomes the lens through which we define others. But pause for a moment and ask yourself: Are people truly limited to what they say or do in fleeting moments? Are acts enough to describe the vastness of a being?

Each of us experiences many inner states in a single day – peace, irritation, fatigue, joy, silence, etc. Our behaviour shifts with these inner tides. If someone meets us in our lowest moment and forms an image based on that, would it reflect our truth? Surely not. Yet, unknowingly, we do this to others and carry those impressions, sometimes for years, in the sacred space of our minds.

MECHANISM BEHIND THE ACTION

Human action is not a fixed reflection of the self. It is a complex expression shaped by thoughts, emotions, past experiences, and inner energies. A person may act out of fear, confusion, or a lack of awareness. But behind every action lies a soul in its journey, trying to move through life with the capacities and clarity he has in the moment.

A thought has the most energy at its origin. The energy reduces as it is vocalised, and by the time it reaches the action, it weakens even more. Action is the outermost layer – filtered, weakened, and often misaligned. Actions can mislead us if we take them as the only truth about someone. Judging someone solely by this outer layer is like defining the ocean by the ripples on its surface.

ACTOR SEPARATE FROM THE ACT

We are not the roles we play or the emotions we momentarily express. Just as an actor can portray a king or a beggar yet remains untouched by the role, so, too, are we – the eternal spiritual beings – playing multiple roles on this worldly stage. The soul is constant; the roles and actions are temporary. This understanding frees us from the tendency to attach people to their deeds. This shift opens the door to compassion, patience, and deeper spiritual connection.

SOUL-CONSCIOUS VISION

To live in soul-consciousness is to look beyond behaviour and connect with the essence. The world may judge by deeds, but the wise see the being behind the doing. When we begin to practise this vision, we stop collecting emotional clutter and see each being as unique, sacred, and evolving.

Let us not imprison one another in the cage of past actions. The deed is just an act. The doer is the eternal being, not just an actor. Let this be the way we see the world.
