The police in Manchester are investigating a double murder along Caledonia Road in Mandeville, in the vicinity of Horse Shoe Corner, on Saturday night.

The deceased have been identified as Deneekia Pounall, 24, a nursing student of Heartease district, Mandeville, and Sadefa Henry, 21, a water delivery man of Marvel Close Top, Greenvale, Mandeville.

According to the police, the two were shot by an unknown assailant about 8:05 p.m.

They were transported to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The Mandeville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is leading the investigation into the double murder.

The police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Mandeville CIB, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.

The killings come amid an increase in murders in Manchester.

Police statistics show that, as at July 11, the parish had recorded 18 murders, compared with 15 during the corresponding period last year, representing a 20 per cent increase.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force recently changed the divisional commander in the parish, replacing Superintendent Carey Duncan with Deputy Superintendent Odean Dennis.
