Dancehall artiste, Grimy Don used music as therapy and wrote the song Greatness.

When rising dancehall artiste Grimy Don’s friend succumbed to his injuries following a car accident last year, he used music as therapy and penned a single titled Greatness. The song, he said, encourages others to make the best out of every opportunity that comes their way.

“My friend Ink died in a car accident and mi know, if him deh here, him would wah see mi at top or at the best of my game,” said Grimy Don, whose real name is Keno Poby.

“He was someone who always see mi make life out of music. So mi pour out mi pain in this song. Greatness touch mi in different ways as it also inspire mi and others as well just to push yourselves to be somebody great inna life,” he said.

The track continues to make steady rounds on the local airwaves and, in addition to hoping that it will be his break-out single, Grimy Don emphasised that his main desire is for the listeners to apply the message to their daily lives.

“Lots of things a happen in Jamaica that can break yuh, and that is why mi nah sing any song about violence. Is really the same thing about my song, whe name Fada. It write during a period of pain also and a just me calling on the Lord for assistance,” Grimy Don said.

A past student of Clan Carthy High School, the entertainer said he would often use his lunch period to sing and deejay with his friends and after school he would visit a family-owned recording studio.

“Just being there and seeing artistes freestyling and playing the instruments got my attention. A deso mi realise say music a mi passion and mi all start play the keyboard,” he said.

Describing his musical style as “exciting, but soothing”, Grimy Don said he draws inspirations from daily happenings and from personal experiences.

“Every time mi hear any of mi song dem on radio, it gives mi a push to just work harder at my craft. A lot of young artiste never hear dem song on the radio yet. Mi nah sing about some impossible tings. Mi sing about pain, money, girls, God, and just about emotions on a whole,” Grimy Don said.

Currently signed to Kingsley Daley, Natral Enterprise recording label, Grimy Don is also known for other singles such as Head of State and Drop Top Benz.
