ARNETT GARDENS rallied from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) in their Legend Jamaica Premier League clash at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay yesterday.
MBU’s Jourdain Fletcher broke the deadlock in the 13th minute and Devonte Campbell doubled the home team’s lead from the penalty spot in the 49th minute to get his first goal of the season.
However, the ‘Junglists’ pulled one back through Giovanni Taylor in the 77th minute, before substitute Roderick Granville headed home in the 90th minute to silence the home fans.
The draw keeps the former champions MBU unbeaten as they remain atop on 14 points in standings while Arnett are ninth on five points.
MBU’s coach Javier Ainstein said the team failed to “kill the match early”.
“I believe that the team played really good in the first half and most of the second half. Maybe some changes that I did wasn’t what I expected. I believe that we needed to kill the match early and we didn’t,” said Ainstein.
Ainstein stated that unlike previous matches, this match was one his team should have controlled through offensive efficiency.
“We complicated things, because it was a match to win. It wasn’t a match that our goalkeeper was the MVP. I believe that we need to finish better,” added Ainstein.
Meanwhile, the coach of Arnett Gardens, Fabian Taylor, credited the result to the players’ heart and courage after being instructed at half-time to dig deep.
“I think MBU are a very tough team to play against anywhere, home or away. They have a quality bunch. It’s like three points for us today. We went behind and fought with courage, so kudos to the boys,” said Taylor.
“It’s a big result for us today. We asked them at half-time to really dig deep and find the extra push to let us leave here with that point, or all three points,” added Taylor.
Earlier, MBU had pressed hard in search of a third goal but missed the chances presented to both Fletcher and Richardo Ramsey.
