Legend Jamaica Premier League (LJPL) leaders Montego Bay United will entertain Arnett Gardens in another mouthwatering clash at Jarrett Park today as they look to remain atop the standings.

Montego Bay have grown stronger with each game, recording four wins and a draw from their first five matches to sit on 13 points, three ahead of second-placed Waterhouse.

Arnett, meanwhile, have endured an inconsistent start to the campaign, registering one win and two defeats from four matches. They are eighth in the standings on four points.

However, after a strong performance in their 1-1 draw with defending champions Portmore United in their last outing, coach Marcel Gayle is anticipating another positive display against one of the league’s top teams.

“We did most of what we wanted (against Portmore). It is work in progress. We have to go back to the drawing board and work on a few things.

“We were good in the transition going forward but, in the end, we just needed a little more concentration,” he stated.

At the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, Tivoli Gardens will be looking to rebound from their first defeat of the season, a loss to Racing United on Monday, when they host Dunbeholden.

Inefficient at both ends

Tivoli are fourth in the standings with eight points, while Dunbeholden are 11th on three points. Tivoli coach Andrew Price said his team were inefficient at both ends of the field against Racing and will be seeking improvement today.

“Defensively, we weren’t sound. We have been very efficient defensively in previous games. We had a big lapse and, because of that, we gifted goals to Racing.

“Upfront, we got five to six chances we should have really converted, but we had a lot of fight and character as, every time they scored, we scored back.

“It shows me we want to be competitive and we will continue to be competitive. We will get back to the training ground and work on our defensive issues and try to be more clinical upfront,” he said.

Price added that, if Tivoli can rediscover their early consistency, they will be well placed to secure all three points.

“We have started well with two wins, two draws and a loss. It is a step in the right direction and we just have to remain consistently clinical in front of goal and circumspect defensively.”

While Tivoli suffered their first defeat of the campaign, Dunbeholden recorded their first win of the season, and coach Alex Thomas is hoping the result can serve as a springboard for further success.

“This win is only to build on our journey. We are still focused on our next game against Tivoli Gardens at Tivoli. That is going to be a tough one but we will be ready and we will be coming.

“This three points (against Molynes) will give us confidence and it can only get better from here. It’s uphill from here,” he stated.

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Tru-Juice (eight points) will be seeking their first win in three games when they face bottom-placed Humble Lion. The visitors have recorded back-to-back draws after opening the season with three straight defeats and will fancy their chances of securing another positive result.

Elsewhere, Chapelton (five points), who are eighth, will take on second-from-bottom Treasure Beach (two points) at Drax Hall, with Chapelton expected to start as favourites.
