The Manning’s School maintained their perfect record yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Brown’s Town High in the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup at the Manning’s playfield.
Playing in soggy conditions, Manning’s broke the deadlosck in the 42nd minute when Jarvis Meylor controlled the ball beautifully, dribbled past several defenders and fired home.
Substitute Anton Scott doubled Manning’s advantage in the 78th minute, rising above the Brown’s Town defence to head home from a corner.
Brown’s Town’s Demujie Francis then put the result beyond doubt when he scored an own goal in the 80th minute, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
Manning’s coach Patrick Graham said that despite the difficult conditions, his team showed fight, commitment and resilience.
“The condition was tough, but our team adjusted to it. At the end of the day, this is the desired result that we wanted,” Graham said.
“The objective was to get three points, and we pulled that off at the end of the game. I know the condition wasn’t conducive for playing football, but nonetheless, this is the condition that we got and we can’t control the weather,” he added.
Meanwhile, Brown’s Town coach Errol Stevens attributed the defeat to the challenging playing conditions.
“The weather conditions didn’t allow us to play our normal game on the ground, so we had to change a bit. It was more playing long and trying to get the second ball,” Stevens said.
“In the second half, we had maybe three to four one-on-ones with the goalkeeper, but the ball wouldn’t go in, again due to the condition of the field. I appreciate the kids’ effort in the conditions. We will just have to come again,” he added.
