Chin finds positives in Kingston Open disappointments

Jamaican tennis player John Chin remains upbeat despite suffering first-round losses at the recently concluded Kingston Open 1 and 2 Championships.

According to Chin, who lost 6-4, 6-4 to American Benjamin Willworth on Monday, there are encouraging signs in his game even though he is not yet where he wants to be in his recovery.

“I am not at the level where I want to be, but a lot of positives. I feel I played a lot better this week than last week.

“I got a week to prepare. Worked on my fitness a bit and I took a lot more points and was being more aggressive,” he said.

While Chin showed significant improvement from the previous week, when he suffered a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Edward Winter, Willworth ultimately proved too strong.

Chin created several opportunities to take control of the first set but was unable to capitalise on them.

It was a similar story in the second set, as he earned a number of chances to break serve but could not convert them.

“Still not where I want to be, but there are improvements. I had a lot of chances to go up in the first set, and some chances to bring myself back in the second set.

“I broke him early, but I think I played a bit of a loose game to give him back one of myself service games, but every game was very tight, and he played well,” he commented.
