Jamaica U19s make it three on the trot

Jamaica’s U19 cricketers continued their impressive run in the CWI Rising Stars 50-over tournament yesterday, securing their third consecutive victory with a comprehensive 114-run win over the Windward Islands at the Bethesda Sports Ground.
After being asked to bat first on a sluggish surface, Jamaica’s openers laid a solid foundation, with Tyson Gordon Jr and Odane Binns stitching together a fluent 103-run partnership for the first wicket. 
Binns was the first to depart, caught off medium pacer Theo Edwards for a well-constructed 55 off 97 balls, which included eight boundaries.
Demario Hall’s stay at the crease was brief, managing just four runs, while Pajay Nelson contributed a quick-fire 16 before Gordon Jr and Demarco Scott joined forces to resurrect the innings. 
The pair added crucial runs, guiding Jamaica from 141 for three in the 36th over to a competitive total of 252 for three at the end of their 50.
Gordon Jr anchored the innings with a gritty unbeaten 102 off 132 balls, laced with 11 fours and two sixes, while Scott provided the late impetus with an explosive 52 not out from just 45 deliveries, including five fours and a six.
In reply, the Windwards’ chase got off to a disastrous start. Opener Derwin Lewis was trapped lbw for a golden duck by left-arm seamer Adrian Silvera in the very first over. 
Captain Theo Edwards followed shortly after, caught by Ryan Littleton off Joel Williams for seven, leaving the score at a precarious 19 for two in the fourth over.
The introduction of Perico Henry turned the tide decisively in Jamaica’s favour. 
The right-arm pacer produced a devastating spell that saw the Windwards lose three wickets with the score on 51. 
Henry struck twice in his 11th over, having Earsinho Fontaine caught behind for 12, before trapping Zach Thomas lbw for a duck with consecutive deliveries. 
Though his hat-trick ball failed to yield a wicket, he completed his over by dismissing Tyler Venner for a duck, leaving the Windwards reeling.
Cody Fontinelle, 47, and Aiden Burton, 38, offered some resistance, but two costly run-outs derailed any hopes of a recovery as the Windwards were bundled out for 139 in just 25.3 overs.
Henry finished with sensational figures of four for 28 from five overs, while Williams chipped in with two for 25 to complete the rout.
At the Pigotts Sports Ground, Barbados maintained their unbeaten streak with a comfortable six-wicket victory over Trinidad and Tobago. T&T, electing to bat first, were restricted to 141 all out in 37.1 overs, a target Barbados chased down with ease, reaching 142 for four in 31.
At the Liberta Sports Club, Guyana beat the Leeward Islands by 121 runs.
Batting first, Guyana scored 272 all-out in 47.1 overs before bundling out the Leewards for 151 in 37.4.
