Scotia Insurance relaunches scholarship programme

As education costs continue to weigh on Jamaican families, Scotia Insurance has relaunched its education scholarship programme, offering eligible policyholders up to $150,000 to help cover the secondary or tertiary education expenses of their dependents.

Previously offered as the Education Wealth Plan Scholarship, the initiative has been reintroduced as the Scotia Insurance Headstart Scholarship. The company said the change reflects the programme’s focus on helping students take the next step in their educational journey while recognising customers who have invested in ScotiaELEVATE and ScotiaMINT life insurance policies.

The scholarship is open to eligible ScotiaELEVATE and ScotiaMINT policyholders. Applications close on August 10, with successful recipients to be announced on August 17.

Application forms are available on the Scotiabank Jamaica website and must be submitted to a Scotia Insurance office before the deadline. Up to 28 scholarships, one for each Scotia Insurance office, will be awarded based on the programme’s eligibility and selection criteria.

Debra Lopez-Spence, president of Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that financial protection should do more than provide security.
