The operator of a daycare centre, who was brought before the St Catherine Parish Court after a baby was found with bite marks on her body, has had the matter resolved through mediation and an apology.

The 48-year-old woman, who was facing charges of neglect and cruelty to a child, appeared in court on Tuesday.

When the matter was mentioned, the mother of the child indicated that she was seeking an apology and compensation.

Following mediation, the matter was settled and the accused was discharged. The accused paid $50,000 in compensation

The presiding judge also directed police to carry out further investigations to determine whether the daycare centre is operating in accordance with licensing guidelines.

The case stemmed from an incident on April 21, 2026, when the mother of a 10-month-old child collected her infant from the facility and later noticed bite marks on the child while bathing her.

A report was made to the Spanish Town Police, leading to an investigation.
