Man accused of stabbing teen girl in Harbour View in police custody

The man accused of stabbing a 13-year-old High School student at her home in Harbour View, St Andrew, has surrendered to the police.

He has been identified as 29-year-old Kemar Mitchell.

The Gleaner was told Mitchell turned himself in to investigators at the Kingston East Police Division Thursday evening, following a warning from police.

Mitchell is to be questioned today by detectives.

The injured teen, is Kemelia Paul, a seventh grade student of Excelsior High School in St Andrew.

Reports are that the stabbing occurred on May 9, about 10 p.m., during a confrontation involving members of the girl’s family at their Bayshore Park, Harbour View home. 

The Gleaner first reported that Mitchell allegedly used a knife to stab the teenager during the dispute, leaving her injured.

“My daughter and another relative try fi part the fight and push him off,” the child’s mother, Josephine Mitchell, told The Gleaner in an emotional interview on Wednesday.

The incident sparked outrage on social media after reports emerged that the teen required urgent medical attention following the attack.

She has reportedly undergone two surgeries so far with more pending.

Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
