Spanish Town–born visual artist Andy Ballentine has been recognised for his contributions to art and community development in Miramar, Florida.

Ballentine, an alumnus of Spanish Town High School, was presented with the key to the city, and April 10 was officially proclaimed Andy Ballentine Day during a ceremony at Miramar City Hall.

The event was hosted by Miramar City Commissioner Maxwell B. Chambers and featured Jamaica’s Financial Investigation Division Chief Technical Officer Dennis Chung as the guest speaker.

City officials cited Ballentine’s artistic impact and his efforts to expand opportunities and improve lives across South Florida.

Known for dynamic paintings that reflect Caribbean life, Ballentine’s work spans landscape, abstract, cubism and still life, with a strong focus on Jamaican culture, history and everyday life. Over the years, he has exhibited locally and internationally, presenting his work at group and solo exhibitions across South Florida, as well as at major art events including Art Basel in Switzerland and New York Art Week.

His artwork is also housed in prominent locations, including Jamaican resorts such as Couples in Ocho Rios and Swept Away in Negril.

“I am very honoured to be given this acknowledgement,as it gives me encouragement to continue to make my contribution through the arts,” Ballentine said.

A former student of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and the Visionaries Institute of Business, Ballentine has built a reputation through years of artistic work. He has continued to advance his career since migrating to the United States in 2019 and has pledged to maintain a positive impact through his artistic endeavours.
