In a heartfelt act of corporate citizenship and community care, FX Trader Cambio (FX Trader) has donated $1.1 million to support the rebuilding of the Clifton Boys’ Home, which suffered significant damage during Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking at the recent handover, FX Trader Cambio’s Marketing Manager, Calecia Robinson, said the decision reflected both the reality of ongoing hardship and the company’s commitment to stand with vulnerable communities during the rebuilding process.

“Life may feel normal for many of us now, but the reality is still very present for those who were severely affected,” said Robinson. “When we saw the updates and learned more about the condition of the Clifton Boys’ Home, we knew this was where we needed to be.”

The Clifton Boys’ Home, operated by the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, provides a safe haven for boys navigating difficult and vulnerable circumstances. The institution was previously rebuilt after a fire destroyed parts of the property, only to be hit again by Hurricane Melissa, which damaged the roof and forced another major rebuilding effort.

The home is now seeking to raise approximately $18 million to reconstruct the facility with stronger hurricane-resistant features, including a reinforced slab roof and upgraded structural support.

Romario Creary, head of currency trading, underscored the significance of the donation as both a practical contribution and a statement of solidarity.

“We know the impact the hurricane has had on families and communities, and while we were not able to be on the ground immediately, we want the boys to know we are here to support them,” Creary said. “On behalf of the entire FX Trader Team and, by extension, the GraceKennedy Financial Group, we are pleased to present this contribution. It may seem small against the wider rebuilding effort, but it is a start and a show of support for much greater things to come.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the diocese, the church representative, Bishop Leon Golding, expressed deep appreciation and noted that the contribution carries significance far beyond its monetary value.

“In the eyes of some, this may seem like a small gesture, but, for us, it is a huge contribution,” said Golding. “Yes, our target is $18 million, but, as we all know, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. This gift will encourage others to give.”

The diocese also shared that the cost of rebuilding has increased as the new design must meet higher hurricane-resilience standards.

“We have been advised to install a slab roof and strengthen the structure as far as possible against future storms,” Golding explained. “That has meant new architectural and structural drawings and a much more extensive rebuild. But this work is necessary if we are to protect the boys and secure the future of the home.”

At the time of Hurricane Melissa, the Clifton Boys’ Home had approximately 20 boys in care, though the facility can accommodate up to 40 boys. Several of the boys have since been temporarily relocated while plans for reconstruction continue, underscoring the urgency of restoring the home to full operation.

The diocese noted that the Clifton Boys’ Home remains a critical ministry and social intervention, providing care and stability for boys who are often at risk and in need of sustained support.

“This is a ministry that is deeply needed,” Golding added. “Many of these boys come from dysfunctional homes and require strong support systems. We are grateful to the GraceKennedy Financial Group and the FX Trader team for standing with us at this time.”
