Sone G points listeners back to faith with ‘Big Up’

For gospel reggae artiste Sone G, music is ministry, testimony and a way to remind people that faith still has the power to carry them through difficult seasons.
That message comes through clearly in his new single, Big Up, released on July 9. The song is a vibrant expression of thanksgiving and praise, built on the reminder that God is bigger than every challenge, setback or situation.
According to Sone G, the inspiration for Big Up came naturally while he was in the studio. 
“This song came from a place of thanksgiving,” he shared. “I remember being in the studio when I first heard the beat and I felt like I just wanted to shout something to God. I was feeling so blessed, and the words ‘Big up God’ came out of my mouth.”
Centred on Jehovah, Big Up speaks directly to listeners who may be facing pressure, uncertainty or moments where the way forward is not clear. Through the song, Sone G offers encouragement without ignoring the reality of what many people are going through. 
“I wrote this song for the person who is going through a lot and can’t see a way out,” he said. “I want them to know that God is so much bigger than their situation.”
The track introduces a fresh sound within Sone G’s catalogue. It blends the grounding of roots reggae with a bright pop crossover feel, creating a song that is both worshipful and easy to sing along to. 
Sone G explained. “It is the first of its kind in my catalogue, but it has a big sound. You can’t help but sing it out loud.”
The artiste believes the song arrives at the right time, especially as many people continue to face personal, emotional and spiritual challenges. It is a reminder to shift focus from the size of the problem to the greatness of God.
“There is so much going on in people’s lives. Everywhere I go, people are dealing with something,” he said. “A song like this serves as a reminder and brings encouragement that will resonate with people.”
