“Winna Inna Me” focuses on boosting self-confidence

Jamaican children ages 7–12 are invited to participate in the Winna Inna Me Creative Expression Competitions running till May 31. The competitions are being run by writer Sabrena McDonald Radcliffe. 

McDonald Radcliffe will also be donating copies of her children’s book, Winna Inna Me, Book 1: Turn That No into YES!, to children's homes.

McDonald Radcliffe, in explaining her motivation for the Winna Inna Me Youth Movement shared: “Every child deserves to know there is greatness inside them. Through competitions, books, and other empowerment activities, I want to help Jamaica’s children to become more self-confident and proactive in shaping the outcome of their lives. I want them to feel more positive about their place and value in the world.” She continued by saying, “As Marcus Garvey said “If you haven't confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won even before you have started.

Competition Details

The competition will allow for entries in the following categories: 

  • Poetry Writing
  • Poetry Performance
  • Essay
  • Poster Design

     

All entries must be submitted using the theme “There’s A Winna Inna Me” - the belief that every child has a champion within — expressed through strengths, talents, hobbies, confidence, and unique gifts. All entries must be original and not aided by AI.

Children will be able to submit their entries in two age groups:

  • 7–9 years old
  • 10–12 years old

Prizes will be awarded for first to fifth place for each competition category within each age group.
