Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says there is no longer a backlog of expungement applications following the recent amendments to the Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) Amendment Act (2026). Chuck made the disclosure on Sunday at the Eastern Region Assize Church Service at East Queen Street Baptist Church in downtown Kingston, marking the start of the 2026-2027 legal year. The service, attended by Chief Justice Bryan Sykes and members of the legal fraternity, was held under the theme ‘Embracing Justice: Restoring Righteousness and Hope’.

McLeod faces two-year ban

Jamaica’s most successful sprint hurdler, Olympic and World champion Omar McLeod, is facing a potential two-year ban from the sport following a whereabouts anti-doping rule violation. McLeod, who won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the 2017 World Championships and the 2016 World Indoor Championships, missed one test and recorded two filing failures within a 12-month period between 2025 and 2026, according to reliable Gleaner sources who spoke on condition of anonymity. The missed test is understood to have occurred in Europe, where McLeod had been training.

Dr Warren Blake, a veteran member of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s medical commission, is raising concerns over what he describes as a growing number of athletes being flagged for whereabouts and filing failures under anti-doping rules. Blake, a former JAAA president who has also served on medical commissions for World Athletics, told The Gleaner that the violations have become more frequent in recent months.

Molynes stage dramatic comeback

Molynes United produced a spirited performance to record an exciting 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Treasure Beach in their Jamaica Premier League encounter at Stadium East yesterday. Captain Tyrigue Wilson (45th) and substitutes Oquassa Chong (87th) and Shavon Miller (88th) scored for Molynes United. Adrian Johnson (41st) and Jhanni Flemmings (43rd) were on target for Treasure Beach, who led 2-0 after 43 minutes. Jermaine Thomas, head coach of Molynes United, said he was delighted with his team’s effort because they never gave up and fought right to the end.

Scotia Group Q3 profit rises 10% ahead of buyout vote

Scotia Group Jamaica Limited’s third-quarter profit rose some 10 per cent to $6.1 billion on stronger lending and higher fee income, less than four weeks before minority shareholders vote on its majority owner’s plan to take the group private. “Scotia Group delivered a strong performance this quarter,” President and Chief Executive Officer Audrey Tugwell Henry said in a release on Thursday.
