Two persons arrested and charged, and who were being housed at the Duhaney Park Police Station lock-up, are suspected to have died from tuberculosis (TB) within 15 days of each other after being admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). One of the incarcerated men died within 15 minutes of being taken to the hospital in late August, while the other died on September 5, The Sunday Gleaner has learned.

PM orders TAJ to develop and implement system to trace demonstration plates
Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has directed Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) to immediately finalise and implement a formal system that will enable the tracing of demonstration plates. The directive was issued during a meeting of the National Security Council last Thursday, according to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister. It forms part of an attempt by the NSC to address what it says is the misuse of dealer and demonstration licence plates by persons involved in lottery scamming and other criminal activities.
Police seize bullets for high-powered rifles
The police in St Catherine are searching for a group of men who eluded cops, leaving behind a small quantity of ammunition for high-powered rifles. Twenty rounds of 7.62 calibre ammunition used in AK-47 rifles and a single 12-guage shotgun cartridge were seized during the incident, which occurred in the community of Gordon Pen on Friday, according to the police. Reports are that about 4:30pm a police team was on patrol in Gordon Pen when they saw three men behaving in a manner that aroused their suspicion.
