The police are reporting that several employees at Kingston Container Terminal suspected of being part of a drug-smuggling syndicate operating at the facility have been taken into custody.

They say the arrests came amid an investigation arising from a massive cocaine seizure.

The police say earlier this week, cocaine valued at approximately $1 billion was seized.

Arising from the seizure, a major multi-agency operation is now being conducted at the compound.

The operation involves the police’s Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) and the Jamaica Customs Agency, with support from the police's Specialised Operations Branch.

The investigation remains ongoing, and updates will follow, the police said.
