Medical doctor Dr Kamille Griffiths Harris and engineer Richard Harris met on the field with sticks in hand and hearts still unguarded. They were two players chasing goals under the sun. Yet somewhere between passes, laughter, and post-match huddles, Kamille and Richard realised they were playing for something far greater than medals. What began as a friendship on the hockey pitch grew into a love that felt like a championship win.

When they first met in 2013, romance was the last thing on their minds. Richard recalls being “a bit star-struck”.

“She was a superstar at our hockey club. I hadn’t made the national team yet, so seeing her so confident, talented, and respected was inspiring,” he told Island Wedding.

Kamille, in turn, thought he was “a genuinely nice guy”.

Their connection came easily, built on shared discipline, teamwork, and an unspoken understanding that they would always cheer each other on.

Their friendship flourished off the field and deepened naturally, but they only began dating in 2021, officially becoming a couple on July 11 that year. Their first date was a simple trip to the zoo, followed by dessert.

“We were supposed to get ice cream, but he’s lactose intolerant, so we had cake instead. I giggled the entire time. We were friends, but seeing that sweet, nervous side of him was adorable,” Kamille recalled.

That ease and playfulness defined their relationship as two people who never forced love but allowed it to unfold in its own rhythm.

As the months and years passed, their bond strengthened. They carved out Friday nights for each other, no matter how hectic life became.

“One day, I just looked at her and it hit me. This was it. This was the woman I wanted to do life with,” Richard said.

For Kamille, that certainty came wrapped in care and thoughtfulness, “I wasn’t feeling well one day, and despite being swamped with work, he showed up with everything I needed. That’s when I knew this man really loves me.”

Richard proposed on April 28, 2024, during a weekend getaway at Brown Shuggah Villa. He presented what she thought was a birthday video with messages from family and friends, but as the screen faded to black, the words ‘Will you marry me? appeared.

“I was completely shocked. I had no idea. He really caught me off guard in the best way,” Kamille laughed, recalling the moment.

MAGICAL CHAPTER

On July 12, their love story reached its most magical chapter, as they exchanged vows at Carey Island, a serene garden overlooking the sea, rustic yet whimsical, with a touch of fairytale romance. “We wanted it to feel soft and dreamy, but still beautiful and timeless,” Kamille added.

The bride wore a custom Sara E Bridal gown made from rich, structured Mikado satin. The sculpted bodice was adorned with pearls and sparkling Swarovski crystals, framed with intricate Chantilly lace, and the thigh-high slit added a bold, contemporary touch. She completed her look with a beaded veil that trailed behind her, pearl-drop earrings, and a bracelet that shimmered with every movement.

Her bouquet, designed by Runaway Florals, featured white roses and baby’s breath, tied with a symbolic necklace clasp passed down from her sister. Richard looked every bit the leading man in a tailored black tuxedo and bow tie from Max Brown, complemented by a sentimental timepiece, the first watch he ever bought for himself.

Kamille walked up the aisle on her father Alrick Griffiths’ arm to the song Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley, while Richard’s heart swelled with emotion.

“In that moment, I knew I was the luckiest man alive. The moment we’d been waiting for had arrived,” he said.

In honour of the sport that brought them together, their unity ritual featured a hockey pass and a shot at goal – one that, fittingly, hit the post first. “It was perfect! Life doesn’t always go straight in, but with intention and perseverance, we’ll always win,” Kamille shared.

The reception flowed seamlessly after the ceremony. Junior’s Catering served a buffet of Jamaican favourites, including jerk BBQ chicken, roasted pork with caramelised apple sauce, baked fish in coconut sauce, and traditional sides. Guests enjoyed signature drinks such as peach margaritas, a passion fruit mocktail, and Kamille’s mother’s special Jamaican rum punch.

Their first dance to Best Part by H.E.R. offered a tender, unhurried moment. “We were in our own little world,” Richard added. The evening continued with laughter, heartfelt toasts, and music by DJ Miimo and DJ Stepho. Their two-tier Jamaican fruit cake, baked by family friend Josephine Nelson, provided a sweet finale to the night.

As the celebration wound down, Kamille and Richard slipped away for a few quiet moments together, sharing leftover barbecue chicken and soaking in the joy of the day. “It was surreal. Just us, taking it all in, the love, the laughter, [and] the promise we made.”
