Apply energy on recovery than attacking fellow Jamaicans
THE EDITOR, Madam:
We are writing in response to the article by Dr Michael Abrahams accusing the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society (JCHS) and the Love March Movement (LMM) of callousness in the face of the recent disaster of Hurricane Melissa.
The Bible commands Christians to be charitable to those in need. That same Bible looks unfavourably on Christians who publicly flaunt their good deeds. The JCHS and LMM have individually and corporately obeyed the Biblical standard in both respects and have been involved in providing much needed assistance to various communities across the Island, many yet to be reached by official aid. Many other Jamaicans, whether Christian or not, are also playing their part in rebuilding Jamaica without desiring fanfare or public exposure.
We wonder what purpose Dr Abrahams is serving by his attack on his fellow Jamaicans at this time of national mourning and need for common effort to restore and rebuild. We urge him instead to apply his considerable energy and influence on the continued national recovery in this difficult season.
Rather than seeking to tear down fellow citizens, we should all humbly pray for God’s help and guidance. Let us “work diligently and creatively”, and “think generously and honestly “ for the recovery and restoration of our homeland.
