Missing the simplicity of life

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I never realised that Tony Deyal and I shared so very much in common. I used to consume my press so quickly, I would get a pain in my head. The ice cone man was always outside my primary school in Porty (Port Antonio).

We use to put the safe in empty shoe polish tins. And one of my chores was to pick up the block of ice and get it into the icebox. I had an older brother, so he chopped the wood, I stacked it.

It was such a lovely life. I am back on my Rocinante, this time trying to raise the bar for dialogue on law reform in Jamaica. It is a tough road. So, I check the papers now and then. That is how I saw Tony’s beautiful and painful note on the state of journalism in the region.

By the way, I am still looking for that three-week course to become a medical doctor.

One love,
