Wishing Dennis Johnson a speedy recovery

Published:Friday | April 23, 2021 | 12:10 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I was sad to hear that Dennis Johnson has COVID-19. ‘DJ’, as he is affectionately called, means a lot to all of the track and field fraternity. DJ is an icon and a former 100m world record holder.

We appreciate his valuable contribution to the development of athletics. I recall that DJ was instrumental in formulating the ‘Bolts of Lightning’, which was the first relay team to run sub-40 seconds in Jamaica.

DJ has been instrumental in single-handedly creating a dynasty of athletes at the University of Technology. He has taken sprinting to new levels with great professionalism, progression, and sustainability.

DJ is a Jamaican icon who we all love, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
