Pro-Am card set for Manchester
Pro-Am boxing will return to the Manchester High School in Mandeville on Saturday, February 24, promoter Paul Patmore told The Gleaner yesterday.
"We are planning a nine-fight card with boxers from overseas taking on our Jamaican boxers, and it should be a great night of boxing. We are in the final stages of putting the matches together, and in another week or so, everything should be in place," he stated.
The plan is to have four professional fights and five amateur bouts. Contract details are now being finalised with several of Jamaica's leading professionals, among them Sakima Mullings, Richard Holmes, Kevin Hylton, Devon Moncriffe and Glenroy 'Bumpy' Beckford, he said. Amateur boxers from the USA have been invited to participate, and a matching-up process in now taking place with various trainers.
"We want to have some of our best amateur boxers on the card, so we are in the process of reviewing and comparing the various records, as we want to have some really exciting contests," he added.
On the professional side, the plan is to have Mullings fight an opponent from overseas in the main bout, but negotiations with two possible opponents fell through.
"We are, however, looking at some other options, and I am sure that we will come up with something soon," he said.
