The Transforming Power of the Gospel

Published:Saturday | January 13, 2018 | 12:02 AM

In the first 10 days of the New Year, Jamaica has recorded 42 murders. The monster that has plagued us for many years has entered 2018 with its agenda of wanton and senseless bloodshed. St James and Clarendon are still the most impacted, while other previously peaceful parishes are grappling with fear because of the increase in murder. Our nation is crying out, our people are afraid. Several organised efforts to stem the scourge of violence have failed. Children are left parentless, sometimes entire households are wiped out. Discussions are held at every level while well-thinking Jamaicans pledge assistance. The Church has been called upon, urged to come up with answers. With churches in every community, even communities featured in many crimes, it is indeed a relevant call to encourage the Church to do what it can to stem the violence.

Preach with the Demonstration of Power

"Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city." (Acts 8vs5-8)

The joy that Samaria experienced because they received the Gospel can be our experience in Jamaica if we receive the Gospel.

Powerless words and vain repetitions of scriptures, church clichÈs and jargons cannot change this nation. They will not and have not stopped the monster of murder and violence. The only weapon that we have that will change this nation is the transforming power of the Gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ must be preached with the demonstration of power in the same degree and dimension as was done in the days of old. The Gospel includes souls being saved, sick bodies being healed, demons being cast out, blind eyes being opened, curses being broken, and satanic forces confronted, bound, and rendered powerless.

The Root of the matter

The monster that the nation faces, though manifested as bloodshed in the natural realm, is a powerful, spiritual satanic prince of the air that operates from the heavens with much authority, giving directives to demonic forces on the ground to influence the hearts of men to perpetuate these abominable acts of violence. Paul declared to the people at Ephesus that we, the church of Jesus Christ, wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and against spiritual wickedness in high places. We must understand our battle and fight this battle in the realm that it is raging. Operating without the power of God leaves us vulnerable and brings no change.

No access unless granted

The workers of iniquities in this land have knowingly and unknowingly granted access to these wicked spirits of violence and bloodshed for their own personal material gain. The widespread witchcraft and idolatry, the establishing of Satanic organisations and cults, worshipping of false gods, and looking to demons as sources of direction have laid the foundation for these wicked spirits to have unlimited access to our population.

Ask for more power

The same anointing that was upon Phillip to change Samaria with the gospel is available to all believers who desire to make a change in this country. Much power is needed to effect the transformation that our nation seeks. The source of power is the Holy Ghost. We receive His power by waiting upon Him in prayer, as the disciples did on the day of Pentecost, in an atmosphere of worship, separated and isolated with Him alone or with people of the same mind, heart, and mission. We wait until the Holy Ghost comes and endues us with power and sends us in areas where He desires for us to preach the Gospel, as bearers and demonstrators of His power . With His power, preaching the Gospel will not be a presentation of excellent speech, appealing to men's intellect, but a demonstration of power that destroys the stronghold of Satan in this land, roll back the dark forces, cancel the satanic covenants of bloodletting, and set our nation and our people free. Let us present this Gospel with power to transform Jamaica.
