Mimosas, sangrias and frappes. That was a taste of the sipping offerings at the highly anticipated grand opening of Starbucks in St Andrew last Sunday afternoon. The Liguanea launch saw sponsors and socialites coming out in fabulous apparel to the uniquely chic oasis, created on the outskirts of the cafÈ.

Specially invited guests mingled among themselves, awaiting the formal proceedings and official opening of the world-famous coffee establishment. Many were seen taking their own sneak peek inside, after which they were nicely ushered out, to make their return to the cocktail session outdoors.

The landmark affair has been a long time in the making and an important milestone not just for Starbucks but for the Caribbean, in spreading locally grown Blue Mountain Coffee the Starbucks way to our masses and the world.

Speakers on the day included Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Audley Shaw; director, regional operations for Starbucks, Ross Goldstein; and joint franchise holders, chief executive officer of Margaritaville Caribbean Group, Ian Dear; and deputy chairman and chief executive officer of Sandals Resorts International, Adam Stewart, among others.

It was also announced that they plan to open seven Starbucks baristas across Jamaica.
